Abstract

In line with Reformed theologians who responded positively and critically to the emergence of the theory of evolution, this article argues for a revaluation of old earth creationism. The acceptance of a high age of the earth, a cycle of life and death in the animal and plant kingdoms and of limited forms of evolution are not in conflict with the belief in the Bible as the Word of God. For our knowledge of the creation of man in God's image and likeness, we depend on the testimony of Scripture. That testimony about primal history can be inserted in the time scale of prehistory, without using the theory of evolution as a reading key for the creation of mankind.
