Abstract

Advances in many areas related to both cell biology and molecular biology of the liver have continued to expand in the past year. Owing to the enormous quantity of new information, it is impossible to discuss all progress in this review in a comprehensive way. We have, therefore, chosen to highlight three areas in which rapid progress is being achieved: l) hepatic fibrosis, 2) regulation of hepatocyte DNA synthesis during liver regeneration, and 3) the molecular and cellular biology of hepatocyte growth factor.
