Abstract

Mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the most frequent cause of disability in young adults. Current guidelines on follow-up and the application of imaging techniques are discussed. Because a subgroup of patients is prone to develop persistent complaints interfering with resumption of work, eventual risk factors for outcome have to be identified. Predictive factors for outcome are related to coping of complaints. Residual impairments in mild TBI also contain behavioral disturbances and cognitive deficits. An overview is given of the long-term outcome in view of current treatment strategies for community integration.
