Sustainability innovation at the UMCG

In view of Schelto Kruijff's inaugural lecture regarding “sustainable innovation”, the local television network RTV-noord will interview him in the studio. For this topic, our example of sustainable innovation will be highlighted. The example includes an interview and local footage explaining how we aim to make kidney function measurements in the hospital more sustainable. Currently, for these measurements radioactive substances are used. Together with colleagues from Internal Medicine and Pharmacology, I am developing a method that is not radioactive. This is much better for patients and kidney donors, and for employees who have to work with the substances. In addition, the substances do not have to be transported, stored and disposed of separately. So much more sustainable and cheaper!
